Do
you know someone with cancer? Silly Question. We'll bet
you do, because today cancer strikes 3 out of every 4 families
in the United States, and kills about 500,000 men and women
every year. Most cancer victims die from cancer of the breast,
colon, lung or prostate. Breast cancer death have held stead
over the past 30 years, but prostate cancer deaths have
increased a whopping 56%!
This
year 122,000 men are expected to be diagnosed with prostate
cancer and 30,000 men are expected to die of the disease.
These figures were brought out during the recent Prostate
Cancer Awareness Week.
A
walnut-shaped gland located at the base of the bladder,
the prostate is part of the male reproductive system. By
the way, it's adjacent to the rectum. Because of its location
the outer part of the prostate can be felt during a routine
rectal exam.
For
American men, prostate cancer is second to lung cancer in
the number of deaths if causes, according to Dr. Michael
Wodarcyk, urologist. "For undermined reasons, the prostate
often expands as men age, sometimes causing cancerous...conditions,"
he said. The American Cancer Society (ACS) is more explicit:
"Numerous studies have shown that high-fat diets increases
the incidence of...prostate...cancer." (Lifespan
Plus, by the Editers of Prevention Magazine)
In
medical language, instead of "swollen", doctors
and nurses use the term "inflammation". The medical
dictionary defines inflammation as: "a reaction to
an injury or irritation characterized by...swelling."
(By the way, all words ending with the suffix "it is"
mean inflammation of an organ, as gastritis, arthritis,
appendicitis, colitis, etc.) It's apparent "inflammation"
takes place often. So swelling, or inflammation may be caused
by injury or irritation from internal as well as external
causes. Make sense? So, what's causing the internal irritation?
ACS has determined prostate cancer is due to wrongful diets.
Mrs.
Hsu recalled a gentlemen over 60 who sought help with his
prostate problem a few years ago. "He always brags
about how he overcame his prostate problem," she said.
Naturally
I was interested. "How did he do it?", I asked.
"I
told him how everything is in the blood," she said.
"If the blood is clean and strong, he will be clean
and strong."
"How
did you help him clean his blood?" I asked.
"Ginseng!"
She exclaimed. "There are products on the market that
make you think they will make the prostate strong and then
the prostate problem will go away. It doesn't work that
way."
Remembering
Mrs. Hsu grew up with the genuine Korean ginseng, I should
have guessed at her answer. But, listen to this...
"You
have to excrete the uric acid out of your bloodstream,"
she continued. "The prostate is like gout or arthritis.
Through wrong diet it becomes irritated and swells up the
passage and pinches off the urine flow."
Dr.
Wodarcyk informs how prostate cancer often develops with
no symptoms. But there may be warning signs, such as difficulty
in urinating: frequent urination, pain or burning during
urination; presence of blood or pus in urine; and persistent
pain in the lower back, hips and upper thighs. He added
"The rate for American men is higher than for those
in Third World nations, also for unknown reasons."
If
we're to be lives the American Cancer Society (ACS), could
some of those "unknown" reasons be related to
diet? Is it likely many Third World Nations are healthier
because they cannot afford the rich American diet and thus,
according to Dr. Dennis Burkitt, do not incur the health
problems of Americans? The ACS figures indicate one in 11
American men is likely to get prostate cancer in his lifetime.
Prostate
cancer is treatable with surgery or radiation therapy, Wodarcyk
said. Of the patients who rumors are diagnosed at an early
state, 80 percent live at least 5 years after treatment.
Don't
ignore your symptoms. Take the advice of the ACS. Watch
your diet. Free information is available by telephone. If
you live in Columbus area, call 262-0966 or 1-800-628-8420
outside the area.
As
Mrs. Hsu says: "After you hear my lecture, you will
known there is only one thing wrong."
